Welcome to your ✨Monday Moment✨

Take a deep breath in. Hold it. Exhale.
Pick a colour 🔴 🟠 🟡 🟢 🔵 🟣
Find the moment below with that same colour, then go to the closing moment at the end.
🔴 Take a moment to think about someone you know who sews. Do you have anything that they made? Have you ever seen them sewing? Who do you think taught them how to sew?
🟠 Take a moment to watch and listen to the fabulous and quirky song The Sewing Machine by Betty Hutton from the 1947 film The Perils of Pauline.
🟡 Take a moment to consider that sewing is said to be good for your health. Why? The repetitive motions can help break negative thought patterns, allowing your mind to shift focus. Plus, sewing enhances cognitive development and motor skills, thanks to the concentration and hand-eye coordination it requires.
🟢 Take a moment to think of three jobs that use sewing, other than a tailor.
🔵 Take a moment to try a sewing meditation to center yourself. There are three ways to do this:
- Drawing Version: On a piece of paper, draw a grid of dots (e.g., 6×6). Imagine your pen is like a needle with thread. Slowly connect the dots in any pattern you like, taking deep, calming breaths as you go.
- With Needle and Thread: If you have sewing supplies, take a needle, thread, and a piece of fabric. Focus on your breathing as you guide the needle in and out, matching each stitch with a slow, deep breath.
- In Your Mind: If sewing tools aren’t available, imagine the process instead. Visualize a needle moving through the fabric, and sync your breath with the rhythm of each imagined stitch. Slow down your breathing, taking your time.
🟣 Take a moment to ponder the fact that sewing needles date back to around 28,000 BC. The original needle did not have an eye in the end but a slit to hold onto the material (likely to be sinue, gut or raffia back then) and were usually made from natural materials like antlers or bone.
A closing moment to take another deep breath. Hold it. Exhale. Smile. Sewing brings pieces together, creating something new and whole. As you step into this week, consider: will you be the needle, guiding the way, or the thread, connecting and holding things together? 🪡🧵

🧵🪡 Your thoughts and comments are always welcome—consider this a safe space. Feel free to share this sewing moment with anyone who might enjoy it, and don’t forget to sign up to receive your free ✨Monday Moment✨ every week straight to your inbox.
