Take a deep breath in. Hold it. Exhale.

🔴 Take a moment to look around you right now. How many things can you see that can be turned up? How many things are pointing up?

🟠 Take a moment to take an up-breath. Sometimes it’s not the breath we take in that lifts us up, but the one we let go. Sit tall, relax your shoulders, let your tongue rest gently away from the roof of your mouth, and hold your hands in front of you at about eye level. Notice any heaviness you may be carrying in your body or mind. Now slowly inhale as you lower your hands to your lap. Feel the air against your palms as they descend. Pause for a moment with your hands resting on your legs. Then let out a long, audible sigh, imagining the breath making your hands float gently back up to eye level. As your hands rise, imagine your mind and body becoming lighter too. Repeat the cycle a few times, allowing each exhale to lift a little of the weight you’re carrying, until you feel just a little lighter, calmer and more uplifted.

🟡 Take a moment to send someone an unexpected ‘up’ right now. It doesn’t have to be anything major, perhaps just a message to say, “I hope your day is looking up.”

🟢 Take a moment to see how many “up” phrases you can think of. For example, “stand up.”

🔵 Take a moment to think of some songs that have the word “up” in their title or lyrics. (oops, gave you a clue of one right there ☺️)

🟣 Take a moment to discover a different kind of “UP”. In north-central India, you’ll find the state of Uttar Pradesh, better known as UP. If it were a country, it would be the world’s fifth most populous. It’s also home to the Taj Mahal and the ancient city of Varanasi, one of the world’s oldest continuously inhabited cities.

A closing moment to take another deep breath together. Hold it, feel it, and gently exhale. We spend so much of our time looking down these days, at our phones, our computers, or beneath the weight of busy lives and worrying minds. This week, make a conscious effort to look up. You may notice something beautiful you’ve walked past a hundred times before. And if you have the chance, lift someone else up too. “Up” is only two letters, but it has an extraordinary ability to change how we see the world. Here’s to a week of looking up, lifting others up, and simply showing up. ⬆️
