Welcome to your ✨Monday Moment✨

Take a deep breath in. Hold it. Exhale.
Pick a colour 🔴 🟠 🟡 🟢 🔵 🟣
Find the moment below with that same colour, then go to the closing moment at the end.
🔴 Take a moment to recall a movie with an iconic rainy scene.
🟠 Take a moment to learn a few lovely rain-related words:
- Ombrophile (n) – someone who feels peace or joy in rainy weather
- Sirimiri (n) – a light rain or fine drizzle
- Rimjhim (n) – the light percussive sound that falling rain makes
🟡 Take a moment to think about where you like to be when it’s raining. Cozied up inside? Or under an umbrella outside? Do you remember the last time you were walking in the rain?
🟢 Take a moment to learn that around 65% of the world’s food production and 80% of global cropland rely on rainfall (rather than artificial irrigation) to grow. Known as rainfed agriculture, this includes crops such as cereals, soybeans, tree nuts, and soft fruit.
🔵 Take a moment to learn about St. Médard’s Day (named for the patron saint of weather and agriculture), a weather tradition rooted in European folklore. It is believed that if it rains today, June 8th, then 40 days of rain will follow. If it stays dry, a long period of fair weather is expected instead.
🟣 Take a moment to take a cleansing rain breath. First, sit tall, relax your shoulders, and let your tongue rest away from the roof of your mouth. Take a moment to notice any areas of tension in your body or thoughts buzzing through your mind. Now, turn your palms upward and slowly inhale as you lift your hands toward the sky. Pause briefly at the top of the breath with your hands above your head. As you slowly exhale, lower your hands while gently wiggling your fingers to represent rain showering down over you, washing away any tension, stress, or worry from head to toe. Repeat as necessary until the ‘rainfall’ has brought you a sense of calm.
A closing moment to take another deep breath together. Hold it, feel it, and gently exhale. Rain is a curious thing. Without enough of it, things can’t grow. Too much of it, and things get washed away. It is often associated with gloomy weather and low moods, and yet have you ever seen the joy on someone’s face after jumping into a puddle in the rain? We need the rain, whether literal or metaphorical. Just think, where would Gene Kelly have been without it? Not to mention a world without rainbows. So, as you head into this week, take this rain quote from Bob Marley with you: “Some people feel the rain. Others just get wet.” What will you choose?

Your thoughts and comments are always welcome; this is a safe space. If this helped you today, consider passing it along to a friend who might need it too.

Do you work for a business that would like to bring more wellbeing into your team culture? Or are you part of a publication that could benefit from a wellbeing column? If so, I’d love to hear from you. Feel free to get in touch to explore how we could work together.
