Take a deep breath in. Hold it. Exhale.
Pick a colour 🔴 🟠 🟡 🟢 🔵 🟣
Find the moment below with that same colour, then go to the closing moment at the end.

🔴 Take a moment to think of at least 5 things that rise in life.

🟠 Take a moment to savour a verse from the beautiful poem by Maya Angelou, Still I Rise:

Just like moons and like suns,
With the certainty of tides,
Just like hopes springing high,
Still I’ll rise.

If you have a moment or two more, look up the poem in its entirety, read by Maya Angelou herself. It will be time well spent.

🟡 Take a moment to think about what the word “RISE” could stand for as a motivational acronym. What about Reflect, Inhale, Soften, Exhale? Or perhaps Resilience, Inspire, Succeed, Emerge? What would yours be? Drop it in the comments.

🟢 Take a moment to learn about some things that are said to be rising:

  • Mount Everest is rising slightly each year due to tectonic movement.
  • The Eiffel Tower can rise slightly in height during hot weather due to thermal expansion.
  • An astronaut’s height can rise in space because the spine stretches out without gravity compressing it.
  • Ocean tides are constantly rising and falling because of the Moon’s gravitational pull.

🔵 Take a moment to breathe and rise above. Sit tall, relax your shoulders, and let your body settle. Think of one thing that’s been weighing on you. Picture it clearly. Inhale slowly and imagine rising above it, seeing it from a new perspective. Ask yourself: What do I need to move through this? Exhale, letting calm, clarity, or strength flow to you as you return gently to the ground. Inhale again, rise to see it differently. Exhale, bringing those resources with you. Repeat as needed. Remember: sometimes rising above a situation gives you the perspective and energy to move forward.

🟣 Take a moment to hear of a few animal species whose populations are rising after once being close to extinction: the California Condor, Blue Iguana, Night Parrot, and Mountain Gorilla.

A closing moment to take another deep breath together. Hold it, feel it, and gently exhale. Life can feel heavy sometimes, and there will be moments that pull us down. Whatever this week holds, or whatever you may be facing right now, take time to notice what you might need to rise above. This isn’t about ignoring how you feel, but about choosing not to let a situation take more of your energy than it deserves. Sometimes, rising above is how we protect our peace, regain perspective, and keep moving forward. Onwards and upwards, my friends.
