Welcome to your ✨Monday Moment✨

Take a deep breath in. Hold it. Exhale.

Pick a colour 🔴 🟠 🟡 🟢 🔵 🟣

Find the moment below with that same colour, then go to the closing moment at the end.

🔴 Take a moment to think of a historical figure with whom you would like to have lunch. What would you ask them?

🟠 Take a moment to think of a favourite food or meal and look up the history behind it. Take, for example, the humble Cornish pasty. This handheld favourite is said to date back to the 13th century when miners needed a hearty and filling meal that didn’t require cutlery. Miners were able to have meat and veg all encased in one pastry pocket with a thick twisted crust for easy grip and handling. Some pasties even had a sweet treat baked into one end for a full meal in one and these were known as ‘Tinners’ pasties.

🟡 Take a moment to reflect on someone from your past who holds a special place in your history. If the opportunity arose to reconnect with them, would you? What memories do you believe they would recall first from your shared history?

🟢 Take a moment to think about where you live. Do you know the history of the area? Take a moment to look up one thing about your town or city’s history that you didn’t know and share it with a neighbour next time you see them.

🔵 Take a moment to transport yourself back in time without leaving your seat. Close your eyes, breathe in, and envision a moment in history you wish you could have witnessed. Experience the surroundings – the sounds, the temperature, the scents, the clothes you are wearing. Then, breathe out and return to the present. Use this exercise to take a quick mental break whenever you need it most.

🟣 Take a moment to ponder a few quotes about history and see which resonate:

  • History doesn’t repeat itself but it does rhyme. – Mark Twain
  • Remember that all through history, there have been tyrants and murderers, and for a time, they seem invincible. But in the end, they always fall. Always. – Mahatma Ghandi
  • Remember, remember always, that all of us, and you and I especially, are descended from immigrants and revolutionists. – Franklin D. Roosevelt
  • History is sexy. – Matthew Torrens
  • I had no idea history was being made, I was just tired of giving in. – Rosa Parks
  • Effective and informed activism comes from knowing our history: honoring the change makers who came before us and engaging the practices that continue to inform and incite change. – Meg Honey

Take another deep breath. Hold it. Exhale. Smile. As every moment passes it becomes part of history. And every moment that is in your history has brought you to where you are today. Take time this week to make some conscious moments for yourself and those around you to create a more positive history. The present becomes the past in the blink of an eye, make it count.
