Welcome to your ✨Monday Moment✨

Take a deep breath in. Hold it. Exhale.
Pick a colour 🔴 🟠 🟡 🟢 🔵 🟣
Find the moment below with that same colour, then go to the closing moment at the end.
🔴 Take a moment to think of a family film with a Halloween theme. Which character pops into your head first?
🟠Take a moment to discover an old Halloween tradition that attempted to reveal the initials of your future sweetheart! The idea was to peel an apple in one long strip and toss the peel over your shoulder, hoping it would land in the shape of their first initial. Definitely a great tradition for those whose name began with S, C or G had an unfair advantage 🙃
🟡 Take a moment to think of a spooky song that’s perfect for this time of year. Fancy hearing something a little different from the usual Halloween favourites? Give the Preservation Hall Jazz Band and Kay Starr a try.
🟢 Take a moment to imagine you have a collection of Halloween masks, each one representing a different side of you. Perhaps there’s a brave one for when life feels daunting, a calm one for when everything gets too much, or a playful one for when you need a little laughter. Long ago, people often wore disguises at Halloween in the belief that they could confuse or ward off bad spirits. So what if, on those days when life feels a little ‘spooky,’ you could reach for one of your own inner masks? You wouldn’t be pretending to be someone else or hiding who you are. You’d simply be bringing forward a part of yourself that could help you through the day. So relax your shoulders, sit tall and think which mask you might need today, if any.
🔵 Take a moment to think of a Halloween costume you once wore or remember seeing. Perhaps it was wonderfully creative, hilariously terrible or so good that you still remember it years later. What was it, and what made it so memorable?
🟣 Take a moment to imagine a slice of freshly toasted Irish barmbrack, a traditional fruit bread eaten at Halloween. Can you imagine the smell of the warm fruit and spices, with a little butter melting into the toast? In Ireland, barmbrack was once baked with little objects hidden inside to predict the future. Find a ring and you might be married within the year, while a coin promised wealth.
A closing moment to take another deep breath together. Hold it, feel it, and gently exhale. With Halloween coming up this Saturday, there’ll be plenty of spooky things around this week, but let’s not forget the sweeter side too. Perhaps life is a little like Halloween: a mixture of frights and delights. (I know, a bit cheesy, but bear with me!) We can’t always avoid the difficult moments, but we can look out for the little treats along the way: a kind word, a shared laugh or something that makes us smile when we least expect it. Whether you celebrate Halloween or not, may your week bring a little less fright and a little more delight.

Your thoughts and comments are always welcome; this is a safe space. If this helped you today, consider passing it along to a friend who might need it too.

Do you work for a business that would like to bring more wellbeing into your team culture? Or are you part of a publication that could benefit from a wellbeing column? If so, I’d love to hear from you. Feel free to get in touch to explore how we could work together.
