Take a deep breath in. Hold it. Exhale.
Pick a colour 🔴 🟠 🟡 🟢 🔵 🟣
Find the moment below with that same colour, then go to the closing moment at the end.
🔴 Take a moment to imagine something is cooking. What is it? Can you smell it? Who is cooking it? Imagine what it will taste like. What does it make you think of?
🟠 Take a moment to imagine you can hear a song playing faintly in the distance. What does it make you think of? Where in your body can you feel it as you listen?
🟡 Take a moment to imagine a glass jar in front of you. In your hand is a pile of marbles, all different colours and sizes. One by one, place a marble into the jar to represent something you are grateful for in your life – someone, something, anything. Now imagine that jar is always with you, ready to add to as you move through your day.
🟢 Take a moment to imagine you are walking along a path. What does it look like? Where is it going? What sounds can you hear as you walk?
🔵 Take a moment to breathe from your imagination. First, sit tall, relax your shoulders and drop your tongue from the roof of your mouth. Imagine you are sitting on a chair in the middle of an empty room. It feels a little cold, a little dull and a little echoey. As you slowly inhale, imagine a feeling of warmth washing over you, and the light gently brightening, as if the sunshine is finding its way in. As you look around, you notice people appearing one by one – people you admire, love, and respect. Some are family, some are friends, some are public or historic figures. At the top of the breath, pause comfortably for a moment and take it all in. As you exhale, you hear some of them offer you words of encouragement and motivation. What do they say? Repeat the breath cycle if needed, and whenever you need to find some calm amidst the chaos.
🟣 Take a moment to imagine yourself in a dream job. What are you doing? Where are you doing it? What sounds can you hear? How did you get the job?
A closing moment to take another deep breath together. Hold it, feel it, and gently exhale. Our imaginations are wonderful and powerful. When we imagine, we can create, grow, dream, and believe in the possibility of so much. Take time this week to imagine. Whether it is listening to music to paint a picture in your imagination, or imagining changes you would like to see in the world and how we can get there. As the British philosopher and writer Colin Wilson once said, “Imagination should be used not to escape reality but to create it.”
