Take a deep breath in. Hold it. Exhale.

Find the moment below with that same colour, then go to the closing moment at the end.

🔴Take a moment to think of some famous Pats. Want a few to get you started? How about Patrick Stewart, Pat Benatar, Pat Moriaty and, of course, Pat Jarrett (that would be my mum for those of you who don’t know ☺️, whose birthday it happens to be today!)

🟠 Take a moment to explore the history behind ‘pat-a-cake.’ The rhyme is believed to date back to 1698, when it appeared in Thomas D’Urfey’s play The Campaigners, during a time when baking was often done communally. Most households didn’t have their own ovens, so people brought their dough to shared village ovens. The line ‘mark it with a B’ refers to bakers marking their bread or cakes with an initial so they could identify their own once everything was baked.

🟡 Take a moment to learn that you can release some tension by lightly patting or tapping the collarbone area when you’re feeling anxious or stressed. This gentle patting is thought to help activate calming responses in the body, as the area is close to nerve pathways involved in the stress response.

🟢 Take a moment to think of three things you can pat – yep, this moment is as simple as that. (and that even rhymed, as a matter of fact!😁)

🔵 Take a moment to think about three people in your life who are always quick to give you a pat on the back when you need it. Whether they remind you of all you are capable of when you forget, or they congratulate you when you achieve something. Who are your veritable pats-on-the-back?

🟣 Take a moment to try a patting breath – a simple reset for when you’re feeling a little befuddled or out of sorts. Sit up tall, soften your shoulders, and drop your tongue from the roof of your mouth. Place your hands on your thighs. Take a slow, deep breath in, filling your lungs, pause briefly, then sigh it out. As you inhale again, give your thighs three gentle pats. As you exhale, cross your arms and give your shoulders three soft pats. Repeat this easy rhythm a few times, letting each breath and pat help you feel a little calmer and more settled.

A final moment to take another deep breath together. Hold it, feel it, and gently let it go. Do you remember pat-a-cake or hand-clapping games from when you were little? The giggles, the rhythm, the simple joy of it all. Sometimes a small pat is all it takes to help us reset or keep going. A pat on the back, a high five, a gentle pat of reassurance – all little reminders that we’re doing okay. And yes, you’re absolutely allowed to give those to yourself. So as you head into the week, go gently, offer yourself a few encouraging pats along the way, and enjoy the simple moments that make you smile.
