Welcome to your ✨Monday Moment✨

Take a deep breath in. Hold it. Exhale.
Pick a colour 🔴 🟠 🟡 🟢 🔵 🟣
Find the moment below with that same colour, then go to the closing moment at the end.
🔴 Take a moment to ponder why the ocean is salty but rivers and lakes generally are not. As rivers flow across the land, they gather tiny amounts of dissolved minerals and salts from rocks and soil. When they finally empty into the sea, they carry those minerals with them. Unlike lakes and rivers, the ocean has no real outlet. Its water evaporates into the atmosphere, but the salts are left behind, slowly accumulating over millions of years. Lakes and rivers, by contrast, are constantly refreshed by rain and drained by flowing water, so salts never have the chance to build up the way they do in the ocean.
🟠 Take a moment to learn the fun fact that the word “salary” originates from the Latin word salarium, which referred to the pay that Roman soldiers received to buy salt, which at the time was an essential for food preservation but quite expensive.
🟡 Take a moment to explore the history behind the superstition that spilling salt brings bad luck. In Leonardo da Vinci’s famous painting The Last Supper, a toppled salt container sits before Judas Iscariot, the disciple who would later betray Jesus. This detail may have helped link spilt salt with misfortune and betrayal in cultural memory.
🟢 Take a moment to learn about one of the most valuable salts in the world: Korean Bamboo salt. Said to date back thousands of years and was originally used by Tibetan monks as a medicinal aid. This salt goes through a rigorous process including being roasted inside bamboo stalks until the bamboo is burnt away and the minerals are infused into the salt.
🔵 Take a moment to learn about some unexpected uses for salt. Everything from extinguishing a grease fire to deterring ants, salvaging over brewed coffee to removing garlic smells from your fingers. According to the Salt Institute there are over 40,000 uses for salt, Do you know any unique ones?
🟣 Take a moment to think of your favourite salty snack or dish. When do you usually have it? What does it make you think of? Do you remember the first time you had it?
A closing moment to take another deep breath together. Hold it… feel it… and gently exhale. Just as salt brings flavour to food, the small, often overlooked things bring depth and meaning to life. Salt doesn’t overwhelm, it enhances, it balances, it reveals what is already there. In the same way, kindness, patience, and gratitude can draw out the richness in life. Too much salt can overpower, but just enough makes everything shine. Find your balance in the week and allow the joy to enhance each day.

Your thoughts and comments are always welcome; this is a safe space. Feel free to share this salty moment with anyone who might enjoy it. Don’t forget to sign up to receive your free ✨Monday Moment✨ every week straight to your inbox.
