🔴 Take a moment to learn some facts about grass:

  • There are over 10,000 species of grass in the world
  • Grasses make up around 26% of the Earth’s plant life
  • Giant bamboo is the tallest of all grass species, reaching some lofty heights of around 150 feet
  • The oldest known living grass on Earth is Neptune Grass, found in the Mediterranean Sea. It is estimated to be between 80,000 and 200,000 years old.
  • The oldest known grass fossil was discovered in a piece of amber and is believed to be over 100 million years old. Look up Rachel Feltman’s 2015 article in The Washington Post and read about what little trippy organism was found alongside the grass.

🟠 Take a moment to ponder the quote “the grass is greener where you water it.” What do you think that means? Do you agree?

🟡 Take a moment to think of some foods that are considered a grass.

🟢 Take a moment to take some grassy breaths. If you are able to, go outside and find some grass. If you are not able to then just imagine the scene instead. As you relax your shoulders, drop your tongue from the roof of your mouth and see the green of the grass around you, or in your mind’s eye. See the long slender blades of the grass. Smell the green grassy air. Slowly inhale and exhale as your run your fingers through the grass. Feel each blade against your skin. Imagine it absorbing your stress one blade at a time and holding it for you. Inhale again and exhale any residual stress into the grass around you. Imagine the lush green processing it all into calm goodness and returning it to you tenfold. Do this any time you need to disperse any feeling of stress or anxiety.

🔵 Take a moment to think of a song that includes grass in its title or lyrics.

🟣 Take a moment to think of scene in a film or tv show when they are sat in the grass. What is the scene about? What happened next?

A closing moment to take another deep breath together. Hold it. Exhale. Grass reminds us of nature’s quiet strength and simplicity. Grass grows in the toughest environments and always returns after a catastrophe. Whatever this week brings you, be like grass: strong, tenacious and ready to flourish no matter what. 🌾
