Take a deep breath in. Hold it. Exhale.

Pick a colour 🔴 🟠 🟡 🟢 🔵 🟣

Find the moment below with that same colour, then go to the closing moment at the end.

🔴 Take a moment to create your own curtain meditation. Sit up tall, relax your shoulders and drop your tongue from the roof of your mouth. Bring to mind any stresses or noises in your life at the moment. Hear and see them in your mind. Now imagine a heavy, velvet curtain in front of you. See its colour in the light. Imagine grabbing the two open sides of the curtains and feeling the velvety weight in your hands. Take a deep breath in, focusing on the stresses and noises you called to mind earlier. As you exhale, slowly close the heavy curtains in your mind. Notice how the sounds begin to soften and the stresses begin to fade. Just for a moment, sit in the protection of the curtains and breathe. Regain some calm and strength. When you are ready, open the curtains again, able to take on anything in your way with renewed energy and calm.

🟠 Take a moment to figure out how many sets of curtains you have in your house – if any! What colour(s) are they? What material are they? Would you change any of them?

🟡 Take a moment to learn about the idiom “pull back the curtain,” which means to reveal the hidden truth of something. Said to originate from the 1939 film, The Wizard of Oz, when Toto pulls the curtain back to reveal the real Oz. Not the terrifyingly powerful and magical being as they first feared, but instead an ordinary man creating an illusion for all to believe.

🟢 Take a moment to guess the weight of the average theatre stage curtain: a) Between 800 – 1200 lbs, b) 1200 – 1600 lbs or c) 1600 – 2000 lbs ? – Answer is below.

🔵 Take a moment to lift your day by listening to Curtain Call by John Wasson.

🟣 Take a moment to think back to the curtains of your childhood. Do you remember if your bedroom had them? What other curtains come to mind when you think back to houses of family and friends?

A closing moment to take another deep breath together. Hold it. Exhale. Curtains, like many things in life, serve multiple purposes. They block out the light when we need rest, they offer privacy when we seek solitude from the world, and they keep the warmth in while keeping the cold out. And just as curtains open to reveal a performance, we too can choose when to open ourselves to the world and when to draw inwards for reflection and renewal. They remind us that it is okay to take a pause, create space for healing, and protect our inner peace. So whatever this week brings, know that you are allowed to draw your curtains when you need a moment, and fling them open again when you have gathered your strength to carry on. And if you find you only need a snazzy beaded curtain to keep the pesky flies of life out, that is fine too☺️

The average theatre stage curtain is said to range between 800 to 1200 lbs but can vary greatly depending on fabric, size and construction.
