Take a deep breath in. Hold it. Exhale.

Pick a colour 🔴 🟠 🟡 🟢 🔵 🟣

Find the moment below with that same colour, then go to the closing moment at the end.

🔴 Take a moment to explore the difference between empathy and compassion. Empathy is the ability to sense and understand how someone feels in a challenging situation. Compassion is the next step beyond when you not only understand, but also feel compelled to help them take action and improve the situation. When was the last time you showed compassion?

🟠 Take a moment to ponder what colours you might associate with compassion. And if compassion were a material, what would it be and how would it feel? If compassion had a sound, what would it be?

🟡 Take a moment to contemplate how you might show yourself some self-compassion after making a choice you regretted. If someone were in your shoes, what would you say to them to help them rise above their struggle?

🟢 Take a moment to learn (or be reminded of) the fact that being compassionate fires up our brain’s pleasure centres. When we show compassion for ourselves and others the dopamine and oxytocin flow and our whole being just basically then wants do a little happy dance.

🔵 Take a moment to take some compassionate breaths. First loosen your shoulders, release your tongue from the roof of your mouth and sit up straight. Next cup your hands together in front of you and focus on the centre of that cup. As you slowly inhale, imagine a warm, compassionate colour filling your lungs and into your body. Hold your breath for a moment. Now, slowly exhale and blow that colour into your hands. Watch it as it spills out and over your hands and into the world around you.

🟣 Take a moment to digest the quote by the artist Prince, “Compassion is an action word with no boundaries”. What do you think he meant? And do you agree?

A closing moment to take another deep breath together. Hold it. Exhale. Compassion is contagious. It helps create connections and build relationships. It can also foster resilience by allowing the space to learn from mistakes, rather than being overwhelmed by them. It can even encourage others to do the same. Take time this week to create a ripple effect of compassion. Start with yourself and let the compassionate vibes flow.

A simple drawing illustrating the concept of empathy and compassion, showing one figure providing an umbrella for another in the rain, and a second scene where the recipient transforms into a figure also holding an umbrella, symbolizing the progression from receiving support to giving it.
