Welcome to your ✨Monday Moment✨

Take a deep breath in. Hold it. Exhale.

Pick a colour 🔴 🟠 🟡 🟢 🔵 🟣

Find the moment below with that same colour, then go to the closing moment at the end.

🔴 Take a moment to learn a lovely new word: Gluggaveður (n. Icelandic, pronounced gloo-ka-vedor) meaning “window weather”, describing the type of weather best enjoyed from behind a window. What would you consider the best gluggaveður?

🟠 Take a moment to ground yourself with a simple Qigong practice called “Parting the Clouds,” which can help ease your mind and body when dark clouds are gathering overhead. Stand with your feet shoulder-width apart and your knees gently bent. As you inhale, bring your hands together and slowly lift them up along the centre line of your body, as if guiding your breath upward. When your hands reach the top of your head, gently rotate your palms outward. Exhale as you open your arms and let them drift softly down to your sides, like you’re parting the clouds above you. Allow yourself to settle into a rhythm. Repeat the cycle a few times, find your flow with each breath and movement.

🟡 Take a moment to think of what foods you tend to have in different types of weather. What is your favourite snack on a rainy day? How about when the sun is out and the skies are blue? What about by the beach or in the snowy mountains?

🟢 Take a moment to learn some cool weather facts:

  • Some frogs get noisier just before it rains.
  • In 1684, the River Thames in the UK froze for two months.
  • Lightning strikes the Earth around 8.6 million times every single day. One of the most electrifying spots on the planet is Lake Maracaibo in Venezuela, which sees an astonishing 233 lightning strikes per square kilometre each year.
  • Raindrops look more like a hamburger bun than a teardrop as they fall.
  • Hurricanes spin counterclockwise in the Northern Hemisphere and clockwise in the Southern Hemisphere due to the Coriolis effect.

🔵 Take a moment to tune into how different types of weather make you feel. As you imagine sunshine, rain, snow, and wind, notice any sensations that arise in your body. Where do you feel them? How does each one shift your energy or mood? Let yourself fully experience the feeling of each element.

🟣 Take a moment to think of a song about the weather. Do you listen to different music depending on the weather? What’s your favourite genre on a rainy day versus a sunny one?

A closing moment to take another deep breath together. Hold it. Exhale. It’s interesting how often the weather shows up in motivational quotes. Maybe it’s because it reminds us that everything is constantly shifting. Whilst we can’t control it, we can be prepared. So whatever this week brings, remember to soak in every bit of sunshine and trust that you have the strength to weather any storm. 🌤
