Take a deep breath in. Hold it. Exhale.

Pick a colour 🔴 🟠 🟡 🟢 🔵 🟣

Find the moment below with that same colour, then go to the closing moment at the end.

🔴 Take a moment to take a few horse breaths. Yes, you may feel silly doing it, but you will also feel the stress of any galloping thoughts melt away. Sit up tall, relax your shoulders and purse your lips closed. Take a deep breath in through your nose. Hold it for a moment. Now, breathe out through your lips and mimic the sound of a horse. Repeat as necessary and whenever you need a destress(or to make yourself laugh!)

🟠 Take a moment to learn a few facts about horses that you may not have known:

  • Horses cannot breathe through their mouths, only their noses.
  • It is illegal to open or close an umbrella near a horse in New York
  • There were no horses in Australia until 1788, when Western settlers arrived. Only the strongest horses survived the gruelling journey by sea, which is said to be why the horses of Australia are considered some of the toughest in the world.
  • The first ancestor of the horse, the Eohippus or “dawn horse”, lived over 55 million years ago and was only the size of a labrador retriever
  • Horses have the largest eyes of any land mammal, which helps with their almost 350-degree vision.

🟡 Take a moment to recall a book or film that involved horses. Put your favourite in the comments.

🟢 Take a moment to listen to the 1971 song ‘A Horse with No Name’ by America. It is said to be about taking a journey of self-discovery to find a more peaceful place and escape life’s confusion. Can you think of other songs that have horses mentioned in the lyrics? Drop them in the comments.

🔵 Take a moment to discover the origin of the phrase “horse sense,” which dates back to the 1832 writings of James Kirke Paulding, an American author and diplomat. The expression stems from the idea that horses possess strength, natural, instinctive intelligence, and the ability to sense their surroundings and respond with sound judgment. Today, “horse sense” is often used to describe a more practical wisdom. The kind of knowledge gained not through formal education, but through everyday experience and down-to-earth reasoning.

🟣 Take a moment to explore the spiritual symbolism of horses. Often regarded as powerful healers, horses are seen as symbols of freedom, strength, courage, and intuition. In dreams, a horse is said to reflect your inner drive and motivation to achieve personal freedom. However, the meaning can vary depending on the context in which the horse appears.

A closing moment to take another deep breath together. Hold it. Exhale. We can learn a lot from horses. If your week gets a little overwhelming, embrace your inner horse. Stand tall, stand strong and trust your intuition. Take time to listen to your surroundings, react with common sense and when necessary swish your tail and just say “neigh” 🐴
