Welcome to your ✨Monday Moment✨

Take a deep breath in. Hold it. Exhale.
Pick a colour 🔴 🟠 🟡 🟢 🔵 🟣
Find the moment below with that same colour, then go to the closing moment at the end.
🔴 Take a moment to find at least five types of fabrics on or around you. Do you know what each one of them is made of?
🟠 Take a moment to think about some idioms or metaphors that use fabric. Need some help? How about phrases like “pull the wool over your eyes” or “cut from the same cloth“? Or perhaps “the fabric of existence” or “the social fabric“. What others can you think of?
🟡 Take a moment to take a fabric breath. First, think of your favourite fabric – perhaps a luxurious velvet, a smooth silk, a heavy denim, or a soft sweatshirt material. What colour is it? Does it have a scent? Does it remind you of someone who makes you feel happy? Now, sit tall, relax your shoulders, and let your tongue drop from the roof of your mouth. Slowly inhale, and imagine that fabric gently wrapping around your shoulders or running your fingertips over it. Feel its textures, its warmth, and see its colours. As you exhale, imagine any stress being absorbed by every fibre of the fabric and carried away from you. Repeat as needed. Use this any time you feel overwhelmed and want to find a moment of calm.
🟢 Take a moment to learn about some fascinating eco-innovations in the world of fabric. Companies such as Ananas Anam, Orange Fiber, MycoTEX, Pangaia, 37.5 Technologies and others have discovered that waste from a variety of fruits and vegetables can be transformed into sustainable textiles. Hopefully, this will be the way forward, moving away from the wasteful world of fast fashion.
🔵 Take a moment to think of at least three songs that have fabrics in their lyrics or titles. Need some inspiration to get you started? How about Black Velvet by Alannah Myles, Blue Jean by David Bowie or perhaps the glorious Leather & Lace by Stevie Nicks and Don Henley. What are some others?
🟣 Take a moment to learn a few quick facts about the history of fabric. Evidence of woven textiles dates back to early civilisations in Mesopotamia and Ancient Egypt, where people used plant fibres such as flax to create linen. Silken fabrics are believed to have originated around 8,500 years ago in China, where silk production became a highly prized art form. Over time, fabric-making techniques spread across continents, evolving through the use of wool, cotton, and other natural fibres. Today, this ancient craft continues to inspire innovation as we blend traditional methods with new sustainable technologies.
A closing moment to take another deep breath together. Hold it, feel it, and gently exhale. Fabrics come in all kinds of colours, textures, styles, techniques, and origins – the careful interweaving of fibres to create something remarkable that we too often take for granted. And guess what? We are just like fabrics. (You knew that’s where I was going with that, right? ☺️) Made up of the remarkable interweaving of genetics, experiences, environments, hopes, and dreams. Take a moment this week to reflect on the many fibres of your being and just how beautifully unique you are.

Your thoughts and comments are always welcome; this is a safe space. Feel free to share this fabric moment with anyone who will enjoy it. Don’t forget to sign up to get your free ✨Monday Moment✨ every week straight to your inbox.
